In 2017, the American Society of Interior Designers undertook a biophilic project as part of the design and construction of their new headquarters in Washington DC. The association commissioned researchers to study the impact on employees due to the biophilic project undertaken. In the post-occupancy study, the researchers found that absenteeism dropped by 19%, presenteeism dropped by 16% and productivity increased by 19%. When this data was quantified, it was estimated that the biophilic project generated savings of $700,000 in the first year alone.
